Happy New Year to all our Sacred Heart families and all our Sacred Heart benefactors. Many great things happened the first semester of the 2023-24 school year and many more are expected to happen this second semester. Thank you to our Sacred Heart teachers for the great work you do. Your love for your students is present everyday in all you do and the way you do it. Thank you to all our staff. The strength of our school are all the people who work each day to make our school the place it is. Thank you to our office staff, lunchroom staff, our custodian and all our many volunteers.

A year ago, I was writing to you about the Christmas night disaster when a water pipe broke and flooded the school. No bad news to report this year. The weather has been very friendly so far this winter and we hope that continues. The roads have been safe for our volunteer bus drivers to transport our students this first semester. Thank you all who volunteer your time to take our kids on field trips and to away activities. It takes a lot of teamwork from many volunteers to make things happen at our school. Volunteers are so important. Home games require 10-15 volunteers each time we host an event. Gate workers, score-table workers, concession workers, split-the-pot workers, JV referees, and others are needed each time we host an activity. Take the time to thank our volunteers when you see them. They are doing it for you and for our school. A special thanks to longtime volunteers Bob and Janet Prichard and Tom Bullock!

We had a December with several home games. Thank you for being good hosts to visiting teams and their fans. On January 2, BDS plays basketball at the RAC. We have built up a bit of a rivalry with BDS in football these past several years. This will be the first time the people of Bruning, Davenport and Shickley will be in our building for a basketball game. Let’s welcome them with good Irish hospitality.

Happy New Year to all!

Sacred Heart School – a family educating heart, mind, body and spirit for this life and the next.
