“Here” movie review

“Here” a journey through time and space.

“Here” is a fascinating exploration of time and space, weaving together multiple narratives that take place in the same location but across different time periods. “Here” was released by TriStar Pictures on November 1. The movie “Here” is like a puzzle that gradually comes together, revealing the history and future of a single place. It does this by showing multiple generations of couples as well as their families that inhabit the same home over the course of a century.

The cast does an incredible job bringing this complex story to life. Each actor portrays multiple characters from different eras, displaying their versatility and depth. Main actor Tom Hanks plays Richard Young. Throughout this film we watch Richard grow up and met his wife, actress Robin Wright who plays Margaret Young. Other key actors are Kelly Reilly and Paul Bethany, who play Mrs. Rose Young and Mr. Al Young, Richard’s parents. It is hugely impressive how they can switch between roles so seamlessly, throughout the years and flashbacks.

The direction is top-notch, with a keen eye for detail and a knack for creating an immersive atmosphere. Director Robert Zemeckis worked with Eric Roth to also then form the screen play; however, the story itself came from Richard McGuire. The transitions between time periods are smooth and visually stunning, making it easy to follow the story despite its complexity. The film delves into themes of memory, history, and the passage of time. It makes you think about how places hold the imprints of all the lives that have passed through them, the movie itself is like a cinematic time capsule.

The visuals in “Here” are stunning. The way the camera captures the same location in different time periods is clever. It is like you are seeing the evolution of the place through a time-lapse, but with real people and stories. The sound design in “Here” plays a crucial role. The shifts in ambient noise, music, and even silence help to distinguish between different eras and add to the overall atmosphere. It is subtle but highly effective.

The rating received 37% rotten tomatoes and only 2.9 stars. However, I believe that they deserve a higher rating, I would give them 3.5 stars because at times it can be hard to follow the timeline. The pacing might feel slow at times, but it is deliberate. It gives you time to absorb the details and connect the dots between the different narratives. It is a movie that rewards patience and attention to detail. Overall, “Here” is a thought-provoking film that challenges the way we think about time and place.
