Doug Goltz, Sacred Heart Coach and CAO was inducted into the National Coaches Hall of Fame in June of 2024.
The event was held in Bismarck, North Dakota, on June 25th, 2024. Goltz was accompanied by his son Matt. They were joined by all the other nominees and their families, as well.
The convention lasted four days and hosted hundreds of people. The NHSACA (Nebraska High School Athletic Coaches Association) has been hosted in the same place and the same dates every year for over 50 years.
Goltz was able to receive this achievement due to his outstanding coaching career. A few of his achievements include a record of 341 wins and 70 losses in football and 749 wins and 207 losses in boys’ basketball record, which is the on-going state record for most wins in boys’ basketball. He also coaches both boys and girls track and field. He has won 41 state titles between his three coaching positions. He also held a perfect 8-0 record in state title games from 1989-2016 in football and 11-0 in state championships in boys’ basketball between 1988-2021.
Coach Goltz has been a nominee for this award in boys’ basketball and football for multiple years. “They take the top coaches from every state and select who they think are most awarded for this honor.” “The selection is mainly retired coaches but sometimes they choose still active ones also.” Goltz was also awarded many other titles, such as the National High School Athletic Coaches Association “Coach of the Year” in 2022. He is in the Nebraska Eight-Man Football Hall of Fame, as well. “The accomplishments I’ve received don’t only make me look good, but they also make people across the state/country know of our little school.”
When asked about how he can continue coaching after all of this time and the hardships he has experienced, he said, “I coach not only because I enjoy it, but because I love watching a team progress throughout the season. I hope to set a good example to future and fellow coaches at Sacred Heart.” Goltz has already left and will forever leave an irreplaceable and unforgettable mark on the school of Sacred Heart and the town of Falls City.
