Each year one of the challenges for schools is staffing. Due to teacher shortages across the state and nation, it is especially difficult for schools to hire quality teachers for the positions they need. At Falls City Sacred Heart when we need to hire a teacher, it can be even more difficult because our salaries are lower than our public school counterparts. Some subject areas are more difficult to hire than others. Science, foreign language, and Music have been extremely difficult to fill for schools the past several years including Sacred Heart.
Bill Moran from Auburn has been teaching science and Spanish at Sacred Heart the past three years. We were extremely lucky to hire Bill after his retirement from Auburn Public Schools three years ago. We needed both at the time – Science and Spanish. Bill has the rare combination with both of these endorsements, and God answered our prayers and sent Bill to Sacred Heart. At that time, Bill made a three-year commitment to teach at Sacred Heart. Thank you, Bill, for coming to Sacred Heart and for the job you’ve done these past three years.
Last year we hired Sherrie Hoffman who comes from Hiawatha. Sherrie is teaching in our Guided Learning program and one science class. Sherrie is fully-endorsed in Spanish, so our plan is to have her teach Spanish at Sacred Heart after Bill’s retirement and continue working in our Guided Learning program. God again answered our prayers with an endorsed Spanish teacher. This means we need to hire a science teacher for 2022-23 which is an extremely difficult position to fill as there are several school districts in need of science teachers including Sacred Heart School.
I am happy to announce we have hired Paige Vitosh from Odell, Nebraska, as our secondary science teacher. Paige will be a first-year teacher who graduates from Chadron State College this spring. She will teach our 7th-12th science classes and also be our junior high volleyball coach. She grew up attending a similar sized school, graduating from Diller-Odell Public Schools, which will serve her well as a teacher at Sacred Heart School. We welcome Paige to the Sacred Heart family.
I say with pride that the rest of our staff is returning for next year. What makes Sacred Heart the school that it is, is our teachers. Our team of teachers we have is second to none. They work here because they love our school and they love our students.
Sacred Heart School – a family educating heart, mind, body and spirit for this life and the next.
