In 2023, Sacred Heart alumni Nate and Clay Finck launched their small business selling homemade beef tallow skincare – Good Life Tallow. The two brothers created this business after Nate realized he could make in-home tallow skincare products while experimenting with many different food recipes. After they finished their recipe, they gave some to their friends, and they loved it! The Finck brothers decided to share this product with the world – thus creating Good Life Tallow.
Good Life Tallow also sells lip balm, bison balm, and tallow body butter. Because the unique composition of tallow closely matches the natural oils found in human skin, Nate and Clay found that this ingredient allows deeper nourishment and better absorption compared to other ingredients. While normal lip balms and lotions at drugstores require constant reapplication, Good Life Tallow products do not require much due to their longevity. Their products only have five ingredients, all of which you can pronounce. Their tallow balm is comprised of grass-fed beef tallow, raw honey, beeswax, extra virgin olive oil, and essential oils.
Since Nate and Clay both have full time jobs, their evenings and weekends are quite busy. Nate spends a lot of nights making products for the business and is always brainstorming new ideas. While Nate is doing his work, Clay spends his nights handling the marketing and the back-end administrative work. One success that the brothers are proud of is seeing orders from all over the U.S. from Hawaii to New York! One challenge Nate and Clay face is even though they may get a lot of orders one month, the next month might not reach their sales goal.
In the future, they will stick to their mission of using simple and natural products. They hope to continue using their business as an avenue to support local communities. Nate and Clay want to expand their products and attend more fairs and markets to help share their products. As they grow into the business, they are excited to learn, improve, and share their products with others.
