With July ending soon, it means that the new school year is right around the corner. The first day of school for the 2022-23 school year is Wednesday, August 17. The Sacred Heart Open House is Sunday, August 14 from 4:00-5:30. It will be picnic style with food and refreshments. This is an opportunity to visit your children’s classrooms and see our teachers. This is also an opportunity for families to make a tuition payment for the new school year.
There are several projects that took place this summer or we are hoping to have wrapped up by the start of school. The RAC gym floor was recoated again courtesy of Dan Pfister and Hillyard, Inc. out of St. Joe. This is a huge savings and keeps our RAC floor looking beautiful. We have a much needed new storage shed on the north side of the RAC. The new south parking lot should be finished which will add much needed parking. Tiehen Gym will have new restrooms and a new storage room. Thank you to all the volunteers that have helped or are helping complete these improvements to our school. Also, Mary Darveau has the school looking beautiful for the start of a new school year.
With the new school year beginning, I would like to remind you how important it is for ALL our families to be generous volunteers throughout the school year. Volunteering helps keep our costs down. We need our crew of volunteers to grow so all our families contribute in this way. Your tuition only pays about 30% of the total cost of educating your children. The rest comes from fundraising, parish assessments, the Annual Fund, etc. Volunteering helps with our expenses. There are many ways to volunteer. These are listed on the last page of the Student Handbook which will be posted soon for the 2022-23 school year on the Sacred Heart website. Ticket takers, concession helpers, line judges, JH and HS referees, snow removal, activity bus driving, working at fundraisers, and Rescue Reading are some of the ways you can volunteer.
We will be doing Husker Seatbacks at home 2022 Nebraska Football games again this year. There are seven home games and the spring game that we are committed to. This year we will receive $75 per worker and we will not be doing concessions. We will provide a bus for transportation and our hope is to have at least 55 volunteers at each game. The money raised from the Husker Seatbacks will be used to purchase a school van that we are very much in need of. Families or individuals can help. It’s a good way to give to our school, enjoy a Husker game, and the money is coming from outside of Falls City.
Enjoy these last couple weeks of summer vacation. We will see everyone on August 17.
