At Sacred Heart School, many students are involved in multiple activities and have part-time jobs when they are free. This year, Sacred Heart activities are not low on numbers with many students participating in multiple activities.
Sacred Heart has many activities to offer students such as girls’ and boys’ basketball, one act, choir, cheer, journalism, and many more. This year, we have more students involved in activities than we have had in the past couple of years. So far this school year, Sacred Heart has had 20 boys involved in football, 20 girls in volleyball, 48 students in one act, 24 in choir, 21 in band, 14 girls in cheer, 10 girls in dance, 16 in student council, 15 boys playing basketball, and 16 girls playing basketball.
Many students do not go home after school and take part in an extracurricular activity almost every day after school. Some of these activities include sports, dance team, one act, speech, and many more. A lot of students get to school early for activities too such as cheer, student council, or even morning practices. Some of our most involved students also balance jobs or other activities such as dance, gymnastics, softball, all while staying active in their activities.
Many students have part time jobs while keeping involved. Some students work at local fast-food restaurants such as Runza or Sonic. A few work at sit down restaurants as well like Wild Bills, A and G, or places closer to where they live. Some other students have part time jobs at boutiques and clothing stores and work when available. Over half of Sacred Hearts high school students work over 10 hours a week at a part time job.
Senior Avery Santo said, “I have learned with being so busy I have to have good time management and stay organized.” Santo is involved in one act, basketball, track, student council, pep club, helping hands, and youth group. Santo also works at Falls City Care Center and Community Medical Center as a CNA. She is just one example of many involved students.
Principal Jenny Dunn states, “Being involved in a variety of extra-curricular activities from sports to clubs to scholarly teams allows students to become well-rounded individuals and find strengths they may never have known they had.” Sacred Heart is blessed to have such involved students.
