Mason Goltz – Junior Law Cadet Program

Sacred Heart Senior Explores Future in Law Enforcement

Law enforcement officers have a dangerous job and duty to keep citizens safe. One would have to be brave to consider working in this field. One of these brave people is Falls City Sacred Heart Senior, Mason Goltz. Goltz attended the Junior Law Cadet Program in Grand Island during the summer of 2025. Goltz said he was interested in going because he plans to pursue a future career in law enforcement.

To apply for this experience, Goltz said he had to write an essay explaining why he should be considered to be in the program. He also said that he had to get multiple signatures of recommendation from people including a local officer and a deputy. Then, Goltz had to wait for his acceptance paperwork and for details such as what to wear, the time, and the place. Out of the whole state of Nebraska, only 19 young men were accepted into the program.

“The overall experience was great. I think it was one of the best things I’ve ever done,” said Goltz. At the program, they gave the junior cadets a look on what training to become a state trooper really looks like. Goltz’s favorite thing he did was drive the patrol vehicles. He had to drive through different courses including one that required shuffle steering and one that required turning at high speeds. Goltz said that the hardest part of all of this was trying to stay “orderly and neat.”

Mason said that this experience showed him what a person does to become a state trooper and helped him learn a few things about law enforcement. We look forward to seeing what the future holds for this Sacred Heart senior.
